Calculate pool area →Heating Cost Calculator
Estimate heating running costs using power, daily use, energy price, efficiency or heat-pump COP.
Calculate heating cost →Choosing the right home or building calculator
For construction materials, use the Rebar Weight Calculator when you need to estimate the total weight of reinforcing steel from the bar size, length and quantity required for a project.
For roof drainage, the Gutter Size Calculator estimates runoff using the roof drainage area and rainfall intensity. It can help compare the flow that gutters and downspouts may need to handle during heavy rain.
The Pool Surface Area Calculator calculates the plan surface area of common swimming-pool shapes. This can be useful when estimating values that depend on the exposed water area rather than the pool volume.
For household energy costs, use the Heating Cost Calculator to estimate the running cost of electric resistance heating or a heat pump from power, operating time and electricity price.
Construction materials and measurements
Many building estimates begin with basic measurements such as length, area and quantity. These values can then be converted into material weights, drainage requirements or other quantities needed for planning a project.
Accurate input measurements are important. Small differences can become significant when a calculation is repeated across many components, large areas or substantial quantities of material.
Roof drainage and pool calculations
Roof drainage calculations depend on both the area collecting rainfall and the rainfall intensity being considered. A larger roof or a higher design rainfall rate increases the amount of water that the gutter and downspout system must carry.
Pool calculations require the correct dimensions for the pool shape. Rectangular and circular areas can be calculated directly, while oval and irregular shapes require different methods or approximations. Using the appropriate shape gives a more useful surface-area estimate.
Estimating home heating costs
Heating running cost depends on the amount of energy used and the price paid for that energy. For electric resistance heating, electrical input is converted directly into the energy-cost calculation.
Heat pumps work differently because they can deliver more heat energy than the electrical energy they consume. Their coefficient of performance, or COP, therefore affects the estimated electricity consumption and running cost.
Using home and building estimates
Calculator results are estimates based on the measurements, prices and other values entered. Actual requirements can differ because of site conditions, material specifications, weather, installation methods and local building requirements.
For structural work, drainage design or other work where safety and compliance are important, check the relevant building regulations, product specifications and professional requirements before making final design or purchasing decisions.
